Panel Discussion on Crossing Cultures: The Cambodian-American Experience

By Keo Chhea, Dean of Techo Sen School of Government and International Relations

We can always turn crisis and difficulties into opportunities and benefit from them”, The UC President Dr. Kao Kim Hourn made this comment at the Panel Discussion on “Crossing Culture: American-Khmer Experience” held on 29 March 2017 at the University of Cambodia’s Conference Room.

Speaking at the discussion were three distinguished personalities namely H.E. Rady Mom, Massachusetts State Representative, H.E. Mrs. Sotie Heidt, and Mr. Derek Pan. They spoke about cross-cultural linkages between the United States and Cambodia, and the skills and experiences that drive successes in both countries, through the eyes of three distinguished Cambodian-Americans.

It was great opportunity for the students and other participants to learn from a diversity of American-Cambodian experts from their life experience, study successes, work masterpieces and technological entrepreneurship. These panelists are great from life struggling in the USA, to significant accomplishments and to adjustment as well as adaptation to the American society, and the assistances/contributions to the Cambodian and their affection and great love for their origins especially being proud of a Cambodian identity. Through this event, young Cambodians will develop an appreciation for the depth and breadth of Cambodian-American people-to-people ties and gain an understanding of common factors that lead to Success in both cultures, including in the areas of education and entrepreneurship.
